Scott M. Lippert

Scott represents clients in:
- Family Law (TPR, divorce, custody)
- Criminal Law (traffic citations, expunctions, and misdemeanor and felony crimes)
- Juvenile Justice cases
- Civil Disputes
Scott Lippert was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Miami University, earning a double-major in English Literature and Classical Humanities. After graduation, Scott entered Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where he interned for Federal Magistrate Judge Michael Merz in the Southern District of Ohio. Scott also spent his summers working at the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office. During the school year, Scott competed in Mock Trial, and upon graduation, was awarded the William H. Wallace Award for being the top student in his class in litigation skills. During his final year of Law School, Scott won 1st-place in the Landskroner Foundation for Children Closing Argument Competition against students from other law schools in Ohio.
Scott moved to North Carolina to be with his wife, Michelle, and after being sworn in as a North Carolina attorney, went to work at the Cary, NC firm of Miller & Associates. There, Scott practiced bankruptcy, landlord-tenant law, and criminal defense. In 2015, Scott started with the District Attorney’s Office over Burke, Caldwell and Catawba Counties. While an Assistant District Attorney in Burke and Catawba Counties, Scott prosecuted misdemeanor cases, including DWI/DUI and property crimes, before moving up to handle felony cases, child sex prosecutions, and homicides.
In 2020, Scott became a State Board Certified Criminal Law Specialist. In order to qualify, he had to submit to judge and attorney peer evaluations, a complete review of his criminal law and trial practice, and then sit for a day-long examination. During the exam, Scott was tested on all areas of state criminal law including traffic tickets, DWI/DUI, expunctions, misdemeanor offenses, and felony crimes. Only attorneys who are Board Certified, like Scott, may advertise themselves as “specialists” in criminal law. Fewer than 4% of attorneys are legal specialists, and, as of Spring 2022, Scott and his wife Michelle, are the only privately practicing attorneys in all of Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties that are State Criminal Law Specialists.
In 2022, Scott left the District Attorney’s Office to partner with his wife and Richard “Dick” Beyer at Beyer & Lippert. He continues to practice criminal law, as well as family and real estate law for clients in Morganton and the surrounding areas. Contact Beyer & Lippert today to schedule a consultation with Scott.
Scott was selected from among other attorney candidates to be on the November 2024 ballot for District Court Judge, and he is running unopposed. Click here for more.
